  The Vakil Bazaar (بازار وکیل), constructed between 1765 and 1777 CE under Karim Khan Zand, forms the commercial backbone of Shiraz and the core of the Zand urban vision. Designed as part of the Vakil complex, its vaulted brick corridors intersect in a cruciform layout, with high ceilings and skylights (هورنو) that regulate natural light and ventilation. The exposed brickwork, rhythmic arches, and proportional restraint reflect Zand architectural character while creating a climate-responsive interior suited to Shiraz’s environment. Beyond commerce, the bazaar structured the city’s urban life by linking caravanserais, mosques, baths, and neighborhood routes into a cohesive civic network along historic trade routes.

  Complementing this linear and bustling spine is the Saraye Moshir (سرای مشیر)—sometimes referred to as Seyed Monir (سید منیر)—a distinct Qajar-era architectural gem built in the mid-19th century by Mirza Abolhassan Khan Moshir al-Molk. In contrast to the linear organization of the Vakil Bazaar, it is designed as an introverted caravanserai centered on a courtyard surrounded by two levels of ornamented chambers. A large octagonal water pool moderates the microclimate, while vibrant Haft Rang (هفت رنگ) tilework depicting floral and hunting motifs animates its surfaces.
